Dr. Stephen Leatherman, director of Florida International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research. Known by the moniker Dr. Beach, this is Leatherman's 20th year of compiling a list of the country's top 10.

This year's list includes two

beaches in Florida, and Leatherman said he was not worried about pollution from the oil spill affecting those locations.  Siesta Beach in Sarasota took the No. 2 spot on the list</strong>, and Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne was No. 10."

BP has pledged $50 million to Florida in hopes of continuing strong marketing and promotional efforts for tourists to repeatedly enjoy The Gulf Coast and Emerald Coast.   British Petroleum CEO Tony Hayward and Florida Gov. Charlie Christ just concluded a meeting together.

Hayward emerged from a closed-door meeting with Gov. Charlie Crist to assure reporters that efforts to slow the massive spill are working and that BP will help get the word out that Florida remains a premiere vacation destination location.

"The big focus now is how do we get the people of the Gulf Coast back to normal operations, a normal way of life, back into the swing of things,” he said. “Florida is open for business, the beaches are open and clean, the fish, as the governor said, are biting, and everything is normal down here."

We have been receiving some curious concern from vacationers across the nation, regarding the Deepwater Horizon.  We have decided to become as proactive as possible in light that NO Direct impact is projected for us on Siesta Key.

Message to all SCVB Partners regarding the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico from Virginia J. Haley, President:

The Sarasota Convention & Visitors Bureau continues to monitor the oil spill situation in the Gulf of Mexico in cooperation with Sarasota County Emergency Management officials.  We are also coordinating with the other CVBs across Florida, VISIT FLORIDA and the U.S. Travel Association.  The Coast Guard is setting up an incident command center in St. Petersburg on May 5.  You may have heard that the Governor has declared Sarasota County as part of the emergency declaration, and Sarasota County Commissioners are expected to issue their own declaration this afternoon.  What does this mean?  It provides the County with the governance tools they need to prepare for the worst, while we all hope for the best.

As the trusted official source of information for Sarasota County, we are keeping visitors informed through postings on a special oil spill page on www.sarasotafl.org, at our call center and through our offices in New York City, Berlin and London.

One of the tools we have deployed to provide accurate information to our visitors is Mote Marine Laboratory's beach condition reports.  This is a great tool and I would urge everyone to link to it at www.coolgate.mote.org/beachconditions.

Another link for information is www.DeepwaterHorizonResponse.com

 5/1/2010 -- MAY DAY!

Beautiful day here - High expected of 89 degrees -- Sunny and a nice breeze!  There seems to be a strong riptide, so be careful out there!

If you ever get caught in the riptide, think of it as the lazy river ride at a waterpark and let the current take you  to wherever it is going... when its done and the current ends, you can easily swim back in, but if you try to fight the current/riptide, then you will exhaust yourself trying.  Be Safe!

Take a look at gulfster.com/ to see wave conditions and coastal conditions

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill updates can be found here:   http://www.sarasotafl.org/oil-spill-news/

The most recent update specifically says, "Sarasota County is not experiencing any impact from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and no impact is predicted. This unfortunate situation should not affect Sarasota’s coast."

Our prayers and good karma go out to those who are in the projected impact path of this environmental disaster.

Stephen King, who also spends his time in Sarasota, recently did a great thing, and we are proud to post the news here!

Copyright 2009 Associated Press.

Author Stephen King and his wife are donating money so 150 soldiers from the Maine Army National Guard can come home for the holidays.

King and his wife, Tabitha, who live in Bangor, are paying $13,000 toward the cost of two bus trips so that members of the 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Unit can travel from Camp Atterbury in Indiana to Maine for Christmas. The soldiers left Maine last week for training at Camp Atterbury. They are scheduled to depart for Afghanistan in January.

Julie Eugley, one of King's personal assistants, told the Bangor Daily News that the Kings were approached about giving $13,000.

But Stephen King thought the number 13 was a bit unlucky, so the couple pitched in $12,999 instead. Eugley chipped in $1 to make for an even $13,000.

Greetings from Tivoli by the Sea located on beautiful Siesta Key.

We are finally getting some much needed rain in our area, which is great for the landscaping and helps cool things down a little.  It has been a very very hot May so far with the temps in the high 80's.

Took this picture today from the roof showing the rain arriving.

This one is of Tivoli Beach

Have a great weekend and thanks for viewing the Tivoli blog page.  Check back

soon for updates.

Tropical Sands Accommodations - Servicing all of your vacation needs

---------------------------------

Monday May 4, 2009

Hello once again from Tropical Sands Accommodations at beautiful Tivoli by the Sea.

The 2009 season has come to an end.

Bookings were up about 10% from last year however we were one of  the few that had an

increase in the area.  Siesta Key as a whole was down from last season and I heard that

LongBoat Key was off 25% from last year.

All but a few of the long term Tivoli renters have rebooked, the new renters to Tivoli by the Sea

loved it and the majority have either rebooked for next season or are planning to return next year.

The guest/renter comment cards were a joy to read and I would say that 95% of the comments

were extremely positive.  I also take note of any suggestions that are left and if possible try to

address all of them in some fashion.

I would like to thank all the Tivoli owners, the returning guests, the new guests and the staff

for a succesful and enjoyable 2009 season at Tivoli by the Sea.

Thanks for viewing and have a great day!

Wednesday March 18, 2009

Greetings from Tropical Sands Accommodations at beautiful Tivoli by the Sea.

The spring breakers have started arriving to Siesta Key.  Siesta beach is a solid mass of bodies and

Siesta Village is filled to capacity.

The village was quite a scene last night for St Patrick's Day, Irish music,

stumbling goofballs and green beer were aplenty!  I went to Sam Sneads for the corned beef, green beer and

the Irish band all three were fantastic.  The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission have roped off an area just

south of the Tivoli path for a pair of nesting Snowy Plovers.  They will be with us for 4 weeks or until they can take

flight.  Apparently there are only 60 nesting pairs of these birds on the entire West Coast of Florida.

More improvements have been made to Tivoli including an extended BBQ area and new beach chairs.

Pavers were placed at the Tivoli access, the path between the pool and putting green and the sidewalk

area beside the mail box.

The weather is great and the water temp is warming up for the swimmers and fishing enthusiasts!

Thanks for visiting the Tivoli blog and give me a call to schedule your late April or summer vacation.
